Criminalize All Forms of Reproductive Coercion and Systemic Manipulation

To: Rep. Bergman, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Beulah, MI

April 14

I am writing to demand immediate legislative action to criminalize reproductive coercion in all its forms. Under the Michigan Constitution, every individual has a fundamental right to reproductive freedom, yet our laws fail to adequately punish those who use force, threats, or manipulation to cause or maintain a pregnancy against a person's will. Coercion is not just physical; it is a systemic effort to strip bodily autonomy. I am calling for new legislation that: 1 Criminalizes Forced Pregnancy:Establish strict criminal penalties for any individual—regardless of relationship—who coerces a female of any age into pregnancy or prevents them from accessing birth control (including "stealthing" and sabotage). 2 Targets Systemic Recruitment:Broaden the legal definition of coercion to include "evangelical-style" missionary tactics and deceptive public speaking used to recruit and program society into normalizing teen pregnancy. 3 Regulates Deceptive Media:Hold media entities accountable for using manipulative language and misleading age-range reporting designed to influence reproductive outcomes or pressure minors. 4 Protects the Right to Say No:Explicitly codify that the right to refuse pregnancy is absolute and that any attempt to "normalize" or force pregnancy through psychological or social programming shall be charged as coercive behavior. Our right to reproductive freedom must be protected from both individual abusers and institutional manipulators. I urge you to introduce and support a "Reproductive Autonomy and Anti-Coercion Act" immediately.
