Stop HR.22 voter suppression is a threat to democracy

To: Sen. Cornyn, Pres. Trump, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Johnson

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

April 11

This legislation would create significant barriers to voter registration by requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship. While protecting the integrity of elections is important, these measures risk disenfranchising eligible voters, especially those from marginalized communities who may face difficulties obtaining required documents. Rather than restricting voting rights, we should pursue measures that increase access and participation in our democratic process. Implementing overly burdensome requirements could undermine principles of universal suffrage and equal protection that are fundamental to a healthy democracy. I urge you to carefully consider the unintended consequences of this bill and explore alternative approaches that balance election security with protecting every citizen's right to vote.
