Fight the Redistricting Power Grab

To: Gov. Shapiro

From: A constituent in Lititz, PA

August 16

As a constituent residing in Pennsylvania, I urge Governor Josh Shapiro to forcefully condemn the alarming partisan redistricting process unfolding in Texas. This blatant power grab by Republicans is setting a dangerous precedent that undermines the integrity of our electoral system and erodes fundamental voting rights pillars of our democracy. The proposed redistricting plan by Texas Republicans cynically redraws congressional districts to dilute the voting power of minority communities, a clear violation of the Voting Rights Act. This calculated move aims to gain an unfair advantage by creating gerrymandered maps that could swing five additional House seats to Republicans after the 2026 midterms. If allowed to proceed unchallenged, this egregious partisan maneuver could spark a "race to the bottom" with other states hastily redrawing maps for political gain. We cannot permit such a dire threat to fair elections and representative governance to take root. Governor Shapiro must leverage Pennsylvania's Democratic trifecta to bolster efforts resisting this assault on democratic norms. Failing to condemn this overreach would be an abdication of responsibility to uphold the sanctity of our elections. Governor Shapiro must utilize his influential voice to rally opposition and defend the sacred principle of one person, one vote. Silence only emboldens those who would undermine our most cherished civic rights for partisan interests. Swift, resolute action rejecting this anti-democratic ploy is imperative to safeguard the will of the people.
