I am writing to express serious concerns about recent meetings between Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Congressional Republicans regarding the so-called "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE). As you are aware, this "department" has not been authorized by Congress, nor have Musk and Ramaswamy been approved to lead such an entity.
Despite this, they are reportedly influencing discussions on defunding critical social programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the ACA, and food stamps. These actions undermine constitutional governance and public trust.
Key Issues:
Legitimacy and Oversight: No federal department can exist without Congressional authorization, and no individual can lead one without Senate confirmation.
Undue Influence: Allowing individuals like Musk and Ramaswamy to hold unofficial positions and engage in policymaking sets a dangerous precedent for bypassing democratic processes.
Campaign Contributions: Musk’s reported $250 million in campaign contributions far exceeds legal limits, raising concerns about the integrity of our election laws.
I urge you to:
Call for a formal investigation into these meetings and the so-called DOGE department.
Support measures to strengthen oversight and transparency in federal policymaking.
Enforce stricter adherence to campaign finance laws to prevent undue influence.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
