I am writing to you as a concerned constituent to respectfully urge your immediate intervention in the case of Meenu Batra, a pillar of our community currently detained by ICE.
For over 20 years, Ms. Batra has served as an essential court interpreter, providing critical language access in Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu to the American immigration court system. Her work has ensured that justice is accessible to countless individuals across the country. Having lived in Texas since 2002, she is a dedicated mother, a law-abiding resident, and a woman who has spent her life assisting others in navigating a complex legal system.
The circumstances of her detention—and the reports of her treatment while in custody—are deeply distressing. Currently, she is being held without access to the consistent, necessary medical care required for her post-surgical recovery, and she is suffering from a respiratory illness.
Ms. Batra is not a threat to our community; she is a vital, contributing member of it. Her detention is not only heartbreaking for her family but is also a profound loss for the judicial system that relies on her expertise.
I kindly ask that you advocate for her immediate release from detention while her case is resolved. Thank you for your time, your compassion, and your service to our district. I look forward to your response on this urgent humanitarian matter
