Push the Trump administration to prioritize and fund public health!

To: Rep. Jayapal, Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray

From: A constituent in Seattle, WA

May 19

The World Health Organization has declared a public health emergency after an Ebola outbreak caused 350 reported cases and 88 deaths in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is alarming, but more alarming still is that the U.S. is so hamstrung by the severe cuts the Trump administration has made to foreign aid, that we cannot respond immediately. On top of that Trump has withdrawn us from the WHO, even though the contributions we made to it yearly were generally less than what Trump wants for his ballroom! Of course, the Ebola threat is not just to those two countries but to America’s response to public health emergencies as well. I urge you to push for the US to rejoin the WHO, and recommit to funding that supports global health and researching infectious diseases Push the Trump administration to prioritize and fund public health! Thanks.
