An Open Letter

To: Rep. Crafts, Sen. Reny, Gov. Mills

From: A constituent in Damariscotta, ME

May 9

I was at the state house yesterday for the judicial committee hearing on the various anti-trans bills. Although the news hasn’t accurately reported on the number of people supporting trans rights, our numbers were huge. The hearings went on until midnight last night. The committee was wonderful and trying to hear everyone’s input. They should be commended. I’m writing to you because at this point, we don’t know what’s going to happen with these bills. If they progress to vote in the legislature, I’m asking both of you Senator Reny and Representative Crafts to vote against these and talk with your colleagues to not support this. If by chance these are voted for, I am asking you, Governor Mills to veto any anti-trans legislation. We cannot sacrifice any portion of our community to appease this fascist administration. If you give them an inch, they will take a mile. And it is abhorrent to sacrifice a vulnerable population for the sake of the safety of others. Truly, united, we stand, and divided we fall.
