Support Social Security Fairness Act - Repeal Benefit Reductions
To: Sen. Stabenow, Sen. Peters
From: A constituent in Mount Clemens, MI
December 19
The Social Security Fairness Act of 2023 aims to repeal two provisions that have unfairly reduced Social Security benefits for certain individuals, including postal workers and many U.S. veterans employed by the United States Postal Service, one of the largest employers of veterans. The Windfall Elimination Provision reduces benefits for retired federal employees who have paid into Social Security, despite their contributions. The Government Pension Offset reduces spousal and survivor benefits for those receiving non-covered government pensions, impacting postal workers and other federal employees. These provisions penalize hard-working individuals, including postal workers and veterans, and their families, undermining the intended purpose of Social Security. Repealing these measures would ensure fairer treatment and the full benefits owed to those who have paid into the system, protecting the financial security of retirees, postal workers, veterans, and their loved ones.
