NO on the Small Destructive Bill
To: Sen. McCormick, Rep. Boyle, Sen. Fetterman
From: A constituent in Philadelphia, PA
June 9
Subject: Vote NO on the Destructive Budget Bill – Preserve the People’s Priorities I write to you as an outraged citizen, deeply concerned about the grave consequences of the proposed budget bill currently under consideration. This bill is not just flawed — it is an outright assault on the foundational principles of equity, access, and social responsibility that define our democracy. Let us be perfectly clear: This bill proposes giving yet more tax breaks to the wealthiest individuals and corporations, while slashing funding for public education, health care, and critical infrastructure. The American people are not fooled by recycled trickle-down economics that history has proven ineffective. We know exactly who benefits — and it is not the working class, not our children, and certainly not the disabled or elderly. 1. No Tax Breaks for the Wealthy It is fiscally reckless to reduce revenue at a time when we must invest in our nation’s long-term wellbeing. The wealthiest Americans already exploit loopholes, pay disproportionately low taxes, and accumulate vast power. We must close these gaps, not widen them. 2. Prioritize Public Education — K-12 and Beyond Public dollars must support public schools — secular, accessible, and accountable. This includes resisting the dangerous trend of diverting funds to private and religious institutions under the guise of “school choice.” Furthermore, every student who earns admission to college, regardless of their background or zip code, should have access to tuition-free education. This is not radical; it is the logical next step in the fight for equal opportunity. 3. Fully Fund Medicare and Medicaid We are not here to balance budgets on the backs of our most vulnerable. Medicare and Medicaid are lifelines for millions — seniors, disabled individuals, and working families. Health care is not a luxury; it is a human right. 4. Uphold the Americans with Disabilities Act — 35 Years of Progress This July 26th marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, signed into law by Republican President George H. W. Bush in 1990. This landmark legislation outlawed discrimination against individuals with disabilities across public life — in employment, education, transportation, and public access. Any effort to reduce funding or enforcement of its protections would not only be regressive but morally bankrupt. Let us remember that civil rights are not budget items to be negotiated or sacrificed. They are legal guarantees, born from struggle, and they must be defended — not dismantled. Conclusion This bill is a betrayal. It betrays our communities, our responsibilities, and our history. It sends a clear message that profit comes before people, that public services are disposable, and that civil rights are conditional. We reject that message. We demand that you vote NO on this bill.
