I am writing to urge you to support the Stop Corporate Takeovers of Physicians Act of 2026.
Patients should be able to trust that decisions about their health are being made by their physicians based on medical judgment—not by corporate owners, private equity firms, or investors whose financial interests may conflict with the needs of patients. This legislation would help preserve that essential physician-patient relationship.
The bill would prohibit for-profit corporations, private equity funds, and insurance companies from owning or controlling medical practices. It would also close the “friendly physician” loophole that allows corporations to exercise control through management services organizations and other arrangements. Importantly, it protects physicians from corporate interference in clinical decisions and addresses restrictive contractual provisions such as non-compete, nondisclosure, and non-disparagement agreements.
Corporate consolidation has become increasingly common in American medicine. According to the bill’s sponsors, more than 80% of U.S. physicians are now employed by corporate entities, compared with 62% in 2019.
This is not about preventing physicians from receiving administrative or financial support. It is about ensuring that those arrangements do not give corporations control over medical practices or the clinical decisions physicians make for their patients.
I respectfully ask you to support the Stop Corporate Takeovers of Physicians Act and help ensure that medical decisions remain in the hands of the medical professionals responsible for patients’ care.
