Protect American Energy Infrastructure and Clean Grid Investments

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Bergman

From: A constituent in Beulah, MI

August 25

I am writing to urge you to protect our national energy security and grid reliability by opposing proposals that seek to dismantle essential Department of Energy infrastructure, repeal clean energy tax credits, or roll back clean energy investments. Proposals aiming to defund or eliminate key offices—such as the Grid Deployment Office (GDO) and the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED)—threaten our national interest. The Grid Deployment Office plays a critical role in modernizing our aging power grid, upgrading interregional transmission systems, and maintaining grid stability against extreme weather and cyber threats. Eliminating these entities degrades our infrastructure rather than securing it. Furthermore, rolling back provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act and ending incentives for wind, solar, and next-generation storage technologies will raise energy costs for consumers, eliminate domestic manufacturing jobs, and undermine grid reliability. True grid resilience requires a diverse, modern energy mix—combining advanced storage, renewables, nuclear, and updated transmission networks—not a forced retreat to outdated technology. I demand that Congress take the following legislative actions: • Protect Federal Energy Oversight: Fully fund and preserve the Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office (GDO) and Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) to ensure continuous modernization of our national electrical grid. • Defend Energy Tax Credits & IRA Provisions: Oppose all efforts to repeal or weaken Inflation Reduction Act incentives that support consumer energy savings, domestic clean energy manufacturing, and utility-scale renewable development. • Invest in Grid Modernization: Prioritize bipartisan, long-term funding for high-voltage transmission lines, battery storage deployment, and interregional grid connectivity to ensure low-cost, reliable power for all communities. • Reject Artificial Market Constraints: Maintain market neutrality by encouraging all forms of clean, reliable, and cost-effective power generation rather than penalizing emerging energy sectors. Building a secure, reliable, and affordable energy future requires moving forward with technological innovation, not pulling the plug on modern infrastructure. I expect you to defend our energy grid and vote against these dangerous rollbacks.
