ALERT: Found in Violation of Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8

To: Sen. Slotkin, Rep. Walberg, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Berrien Springs, MI

May 14

To Every Member of the United States Congress, Today, I write with urgency and conviction on behalf of the American people and the integrity of our republic. As of May 14, 2025, we face not a theoretical constitutional crisis — but a tangible, immediate breach of the very document that binds our democracy. President Donald J. Trump — currently serving as the sitting President of the United States — is reportedly accepting, or has already accepted, the gift of a private luxury aircraft from the government of Qatar. Let that sink in. This is not just inappropriate. It is not just questionable. It is a direct and unequivocal violation of Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the United States Constitution — the Foreign Emoluments Clause — which explicitly prohibits any person holding office from accepting gifts, emoluments, titles, or offices from foreign governments without the express consent of Congress. The clause is clear. The violation is clear. And your responsibility as members of Congress could not be clearer. This gift from Qatar, a foreign state, is not a symbolic trinket. It is a multimillion-dollar aircraft — a high-value item that carries the risk of foreign influence, potential quid pro quo, and significant national security implications. This action is the very scenario the Founders feared: a sitting president beholden to or influenced by foreign powers due to lavish personal gifts or incentives. And it is not the first red flag. President Trump has already demonstrated a pattern of undermining democratic institutions, defying constitutional norms, and bending the machinery of government to serve personal interests. The attempted overturning of the 2020 election, the January 6th insurrection, cozying up to autocrats, and his ongoing contempt for checks and balances — all of it forms a trajectory that now leads to this latest breach. You took an oath — not to a president, not to a party, but to the Constitution. That oath means something, or it means nothing. If this violation is not grounds for immediate action — what is? Congress cannot afford to sit idly by and “wait for something worse.” This is the violation. This is the moment that calls for immediate investigation and the filing of Articles of Impeachment. The American people are watching. The world is watching. And so is history. Let it never be said of you that you stood on the sidelines while the U.S. Constitution was violated in plain sight. Let it not be written that you were too timid, too calculating, or too partisan to defend the very democracy you swore to protect. This is not about politics. This is about preserving the last guardrails of our republic. Act now. There can be no delay. This is urgent. With deepest respect for the duties of your office, A Citizen of the United States A Defender of Democracy A Voice Calling for Accountability
