Congress must take back its power from the executive branch

To: Sen. Durbin, Rep. Miller, Sen. Duckworth

From: A verified voter in New Berlin, IL

April 9

Imposing sweeping tariffs and then abruptly pausing them has sown economic instability and mistrust. The recent whiplash over tariff policies demonstrates the need for a more measured, consistent approach to trade. Leaving these consequential decisions to the unpredictable whims of a single person risks further market turmoil and damage to America's standing. It is imperative that Congress reasserts its constitutional authority over tariffs and trade to restore confidence and pursue policies guided by expert analysis rather than impulse. Steadier leadership is required to protect American jobs, consumers and economic interests.
