I'm writing you today in regards to the proposed acquisition of PNM by Blackstone. We New Mexicans are already struggling with the rising cost of living. Blackstone is not a climate savior. They are a trillion-dollar private equity giant that profits from housing shortages, rising costs of living, and the climate crisis itself. Handing over our utility system to Wall Street investors will only deepen corporate overreach into the essentials of daily life. I am utterly furious that our legislators would even consider selling out to private equity. If approved, this deal would place our energy future in the hands of Wall Street billionaires, locking our communities into an energy system that answers to private equity shareholders instead of the people. Blackstone’s record of pushing false solutions like hydrogen projects to corporate exploitation across sectors proves that they will put profits over people every time. We have all seen the results of energy grids managed by private companies beholden to their shareholders. Need I remind you of how energy providers in Texas exploited its citizens during Snowpocalypse? We do not want these private companies owning the infrastructure we as New Mexicans rely on to survive. If you allow them to acquire PNM you are not fit to represent us. Please consider the livelihood of the people you represent, and put a stop to this proposed acquisition.
