I am deeply disturbed by the video footage of Tufts doctoral student Rumeysa Ozturk being detained outside her home. This followed renewed scrutiny of her past public advocacy for Palestinian rights. Her speech was protected. Her detention looks retaliatory. Worse, she was removed from Massachusetts in direct violation of a court order. This is not just an immigration issue—it’s a violation of the First Amendment, due process, and the authority of the judiciary. As the Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee, you have a powerful platform to demand transparency and accountability. If ICE is targeting individuals for political speech and defying court orders, it endangers the rights of all Americans. I urge you to speak out and push for a full investigation. This cannot be normalized.
