Slaughter prove that lifetime appointments have turned the judiciary into an unaccountable branch that chooses partisan overreach over constitutional checks and balances. We need a system of immediate accountability, similar to Canada’s Judicial Council, where an independent oversight body of citizens and experts can swiftly investigate and recommend the removal of corrupt or tyrannical judges. I urge you to introduce and support legislation to establish an Independent Judicial Conduct Commission, enforce a strict and binding code of ethics, and institute 18-year term limits for all federal judges. The power of the judiciary comes from the consent of the governed, and we demand accountability now.
