Stop Using Anti-Trans Messaging to Win Elections

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Walberg

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

October 23

Stop running ads that target transgender people. The DCCC's "That's Nancy" ad, paid for by the party itself and airing in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District, marks the first known instance of the Democratic Party choosing explicitly anti-transgender messaging as a campaign strategy. That is a line that should not have been crossed. This is not a smart political calculation. Multiple polls this month show voters rank transgender issues among the issues they care about least. Those who do rank them highly skew Democratic, and more Americans trust Democrats than Republicans on transgender issues. Even Republican allies like the American Principles Project have warned that anti-trans messaging isn't resonating. The DCCC is alienating its own base for a strategy that the evidence says doesn't work. I vote based on whether a candidate stands up for all constituents, not just the ones it's convenient to protect. A party that throws a minority group under the bus to chase votes it may not even gain has lost the plot. Do better.
