I am deeply terrified as unelected oligarch Elon Musk hijacks the US Treasury and guts our civil service. I know when we write our elected officials we should give a clear focused “ask” for better results and responses, but to be frank, I don’t know what to concretely ask you to do to make this illegal “DOGE” scheme stop, or to mitigate its damage. I guess what we really need is you, our democratically elected officials, to be out in front saying this is illegal and leading the charge and filing the lawsuits and educating the public. Democratic leadership like Senator Schumer making “told you so” comments on social media about pizza prices is NOT the leadership this moment calls for. This is a five alarm fire. We need an active and engaged resistance. Please look to the public outrage of younger members of the democratic collation, like Representatives Accacio Cortez and Crockett, and use them to model a new, stronger resistance to this hostile takeover of the civil service. Chain yourself to the door of USAID. Get yourself arrested for civil disobedience. Flag that this can never be made normal and that you are doing everything you can to resist this gutting of the systems that keep us safe.
