An Open Letter

To: Sen. King, Sen. Collins

From: A constituent in South Portland, ME

February 9

An immigrant reports his skull was broken in eight places during what he says was an unprovoked ICE arrest — and this is not an isolated allegation. Multiple detainees, families, and legal advocates have reported serious abuse and excessive force in ICE operations.   Holding ICE accountable is urgent. Continued reports of brutality demand immediate oversight and enforceable limits, not routine negotiations that ignore what is happening on the ground.   These are not normal times. Congress must act accordingly and insist on the real, meaningful controls and accountability that Democrats are demanding in the DHS negotiations.  Anything less is endorsement of continued brutality.  The American people do not support it, will not stand for it, and will not support you at the ballot box if you vote to allow this to continue.
