The administration's actions regarding the wrongful deportation and continued detainment of Kilmar Abrego Garcia are extremely concerning. President Trump's defiance of court orders, including the Supreme Court ruling requiring Abrego Garcia's return from El Salvador, undermines the rule of law and system of checks and balances that are fundamental to American democracy. No president should consider themselves above judicial authority or act as an unchecked ruler. Furthermore, the implications of Trump's remarks about deporting alleged gang members and "homegrowns" to El Salvador are chilling. Forcibly removing U.S. citizens without due process to foreign prisons would be an egregious violation of constitutional rights. Such authoritarian overreach has no place in this country. I urge you to take a firm stand against this alarming subversion of democratic principles and civil liberties. Congress must act as a co-equal branch of government to rein in executive overreach and ensure the president follows the law and court rulings. Preserving the nation's system of checks and balances is vital to preventing America from devolving into a nation ruled by one person's whims rather than constitutional order. Decisive action is needed to reassert that America has no kings.
