Block this foreign beef import. The Trump administration has announced a deal to bring in 300,000 metric tons of ground beef from an undisclosed country — and when pressed, the president refused to name the source. That alone should disqualify it. American cattle ranchers are already struggling, and this deal undercuts them with subsidized foreign meat at 25% below market price. The evidence points to Argentina, and that's a serious problem. In March, China suspended an Argentine beef shipment after detecting chloramphenicol, an antibiotic banned in the U.S. because it can cause fatal aplastic anemia. Congress repealed mandatory country-of-origin labeling for beef in 2015, which means American consumers have no way of knowing what they're buying. As Good Ranchers put it: "Nobody knows where this beef is coming from. Nobody knows how the animals were raised, what they were fed, or what antibiotics and vaccines were used." That's not acceptable. Restore country-of-origin labeling and stop this import until the source is fully disclosed and independently verified.
