I am one of your constituents, and I’m asking you to protect and strengthen Social Security.
I’ve worked hard and paid into Social Security for my entire life. Social Security provides the majority of income for more than 25 million families. It’s one of the most successful and popular initiatives in history, and has helped generations of Americans stay out of poverty and thrive in retirement.
The new Social Security Trustees Report tells us now is the time to protect and strengthen Social Security. Around 2034, Social Security will have about 80% of the money it needs to make full payments. The good news is that Congress has hundreds of tools in its toolbox to strengthen Social Security without cutting payments. That’s what I’m urging you to do.
As prices keep soaring for groceries, housing, utilities, and health care, older Americans count on Social Security now more than ever. Social Security is money we’ve earned. We’ve kept our end of the promise, and I urge you to make sure Congress upholds its end of the deal.
As your constituent, I ask that you keep Social Security strong, without any cuts.
