November 19

**Urge Support for Transgender Healthcare in Upcoming Appropriations** I am writing to express my deep concern about the ongoing threats to transgender healthcare in our nation's budget negotiations. While I am relieved that the recent compromise to fund the government through January 30, 2026, did not include anti-transgender provisions, I remain worried about the battles ahead, particularly regarding the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education package. The recent bipartisan agreement to reopen the government and provide funding until January 30, 2026, was a step in the right direction. It demonstrated that compromise is possible, even in our currently divided political landscape. However, this reprieve is temporary, and the fight to protect transgender rights and healthcare is far from over. As your constituent, I urge you to stand firm against any attempts to include anti-transgender measures in future appropriations bills. These measures not only discriminate against a vulnerable population but also interfere with essential healthcare services that transgender individuals rely on for their well-being and quality of life. I am not exaggerating when I say that restricting access to essential health services will not only reduce wellbeing and quality of life for the gender expansive community, it will lead to poorer health overall, and in many cases unnecessary and preventable death. Furthermore, the message of inequality restricting access to affirming healthcare sends green lights further marginalization of Transgender people in all aspects of life in society. For some, this seems to be the goal. I urge you to uphold the vision of the United States as a place of liberty and justice for all and vote against any legislation that allows Transgender people access to fewer rights and services in our country. The Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education package is of particular concern. This crucial funding bill should focus on improving healthcare access and education for all Americans, not on restricting rights or denying care to specific groups. Any anti-transgender provisions in this package would be a direct attack on the health and dignity of transgender individuals in our community and across the nation. As we approach the January 30, 2026 deadline, I ask that you prioritize the protection of transgender healthcare in all budget negotiations. Please oppose any amendments or provisions that would limit access to gender-affirming care, discriminate against transgender individuals in healthcare settings, or restrict funding for transgender-inclusive health programs. Your support for inclusive healthcare policies will not only benefit the transgender community but will also uphold the principles of equality and justice for which our nation stands. I urge you to be a vocal advocate for transgender rights and to work towards a budget that reflects the needs and values of all your constituents, including those who are transgender. As we have seen in recent elections, the majority of Americans are against anti-transgender legislation and campaigns. The coming months will be critical. Please use your position to ensure that our government's funding decisions protect and support all Americans, regardless of their gender identity. The health and well-being and lives of many in our community depend on your commitment to this cause.
