Preserve funding for NPR and PBS, public information guardians

To: Rep. Moolenaar, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Muskegon, MI

May 9

The proposed legislation aims to eliminate federal funding for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). These noncommercial media organizations play a vital role in providing educational programming and objective journalism to millions of Americans, including children. Defunding them would deprive many communities of access to trusted sources of information and quality educational content. Moreover, it could open the door for the proliferation of partisan or misleading content targeting young audiences. I urge you to reject this bill and continue supporting NPR and PBS as invaluable public resources. Their unbiased reporting and educational mission serve the public interest by fostering an informed citizenry. Cutting their funding would undermine media plurality and leave a vacuum that special interests could exploit to spread disinformation. Please prioritize preserving these essential public broadcasting services that enrich our society.
