Stop Executive Renaming for Vanity and Ego (SERVE) Act I am a voting constituent writing to express opposition to the escalating trend of naming public infrastructure, federal buildings, and national symbols after Donald Trump. There has been an unprecedented push to brand our national institutions with Trump’s name—a move that appears less about honoring service and more about stoking an individual ego and creating fawning opportunities for political subordinates. Recent developments include: National Infrastructure: Proposed legislation to rename Washington Dulles International Airport and Palm Beach International Airport as "Donald J. Trump International Airport." Cultural Institutions: The rebranding of the U.S. Institute of Peace and the controversial addition of the President’s name to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts—a memorial specifically dedicated by Congress to President John F. Kennedy. National Currency: The unprecedented decision to include the President’s signature on new paper currency and the approval of a commemorative 24-karat gold coin bearing his likeness by a commission comprised of his own appointees. Departmental Branding: Executive actions to rebrand the Department of Defense as the "Department of War" and the reversal of bipartisan efforts to rename military bases that previously honored Confederate figures. Public buildings and national treasures belong to the American people, not to any single politician. Using these assets as personal billboards creates a cult of personality that is fundamentally at odds with our democratic values. Furthermore, when subordinates and appointees use their positions to approve such "tributes," it fosters a culture of sycophancy rather than one of public service and objective governance. I urge you to support the Stop Executive Renaming for Vanity and Ego (SERVE) Act or similar legislation that would prohibit the naming or renaming of federal assets after a sitting president. We must ensure that our national landmarks reflect our shared history and values, rather than serving as monuments to the vanity of the incumbent administration. Our tax dollars should be spent on serving the needs of the American people, not on rebranding consultants and the replacement of signage for self-glorifying projects.
