Protect our forests

To: Sen. Mullin, Pres. Trump, Sen. Lankford, Rep. Bice

From: A constituent in Guthrie, OK

March 5

I am compelled to express grave concerns over the recent executive order permitting widespread deforestation across 280 million acres of national forests and public lands. This misguided policy poses a severe threat to our nation's ecological heritage and climate resilience. Clearcutting vast swathes of forest will not only endanger countless species already facing extinction but also exacerbate the risk of catastrophic wildfires by disrupting the delicate microclimates that trees create. Furthermore, felling old-growth forests robs us of vital carbon sinks essential for mitigating the climate crisis. I implore you to reconsider this reckless course of action and instead prioritize the long-term preservation of our nation's forests. These natural treasures provide invaluable ecological services, support biodiversity, and safeguard the clean air and water upon which millions of Americans rely. Protecting our remaining old-growth stands is a crucial step towards fulfilling our shared responsibility to address the existential threat of climate change and leave a livable planet for future generations.
