Investigate and condemn the Trump administration's federal lawsuit against Alaska seeking to delay certification of its Senate election before a single vote has been counted.
The Alaska Supreme Court already settled the question of two similarly named candidates on the ballot. The state took clear steps to distinguish them with party designations and an incumbent label. The federal government filed suit anyway. Election law professor Derek Muller called the case "strange and unusual." Former DOJ voting rights attorney Justin Levitt said he knew of no legal path for blocking certification simply because the government believed a candidate should not have been permitted to run. Democracy Docket identified this as the first Trump administration lawsuit seeking to block certification of a 2026 midterm result.
Trump himself admitted on camera that he personally ordered the lawsuit, saying, "I'm the one who said, 'do it.'" That is a president openly directing his Justice Department to interfere in a Senate race his party might lose. This is not a legal dispute. It is an abuse of executive power aimed at overriding a state court ruling and suppressing a legitimate election outcome. Elected officials at every level have an obligation to speak out against it.
