I am writing in outrage and deep concern over the President’s unilateral military strike on Iran last night, carried out in the middle of the night without transparent consultation with Congress or the American people. This action risks dragging our nation into another catastrophic conflict in the Middle East without constitutional authorization.
Congress must immediately pass an Iran War Powers Resolution to block any further unauthorized military action. The Constitution is clear: the power to declare war rests with Congress. When a president bypasses that authority, it is not strength—it is a violation of the law and a threat to our democracy.
In his own speech last night, the President said that “American heroes will die.” That statement should chill every one of us. Our service members are not pawns. They are sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, neighbors and friends. They deserve leadership that values their lives beyond political calculation. To speak so casually about their potential deaths - while escalating hostilities in the middle of the night while the American people slept and without Congressional approval - is unconscionable.
If American service members are placed in harm’s way, it must be for a clear, lawful, and necessary defense of the nation- not as a distraction from the Epstein Files, not as a show of force for a authoritarian administration, and certainly not to divert attention from domestic political crises or mounting scandals. The American people deserve transparency. Our troops deserve integrity in leadership. And our Constitution demands accountability.
I urge you to act immediately to:
1 Pass a binding Iran War Powers Resolution to prevent further unauthorized strikes.
2 Reassert Congress’s constitutional authority over matters of war.
3 Demand full transparency from the administration about the justification, objectives, and risks of this action.
History has shown us the cost of rushing into war. We cannot allow another generation of American families to bear the burden of unnecessary conflict. Stand up for the Constitution. Stand up for our troops. Stand up for the rule of law.
