Slam the Door on the Presidential Payout Scam
Our nation faces an unprecedented threat to public integrity that demands immediate legislative action. I urge you to co-sponsor and swiftly pass the Ban Presidential Plunder of Taxpayer Funds Act, recently introduced by Representative Raskin, Senator Warren, and colleagues.
A dangerous legal loophole allows the nation’s highest officials to weaponize the government against itself. We are seeing a brazen, collusive tactic where a sitting president can file legally unsupportable tort claims against federal agencies—such as the IRS—acting as the "plaintiff," while simultaneously commanding the very administration that serves as the "defendant." This conflict of interest opens the door for corrupt, multi-billion-dollar settlements funded entirely by hard-working taxpayers.
The Ban Presidential Plunder Act establishes vital, commonsense guardrails to preserve the rule of law. It strictly prohibits the President, Vice President, and their immediate families from collecting federal settlement payouts, and pauses the processing of any administrative claims they file while in office.
The presidency must be an office of public service, not a vehicle for personal enrichment, self-dealing, and corruption. Protect our hard-earned tax dollars and earn public trust. Pass this bill without delay.
