Seeking Substance from Rep McClain
To: Rep. McClain
From: A verified voter in Marlette, MI
February 14
Just a note that Rep McClain's recent unhinged racist rant about immigrants in which she depicted them as violent criminals was very embarrassing to me as a resident of the Thumb.
We already know that communities in which immigrants live have lower crime rates and higher entrepreneurial ventures than do communities that have fewer immigrants.
More uniquely, as a victim of crime, I must admit that I feel sick whenever any politician uses fictitious crime claims to smear our immigrant neighbours, family, and community members. I carry it in my gut and on my shoulders, and it hurts. Immigrants are the majority of the survivors of the sort of long-term crime that I experienced.
These performances featuring bigotry and emotional hyperbole are not what we voted for. We voted for lower grocery prices - which we do not yet have. We voted for more affordable healthcare - which we do not have. We voted for better jobs - which we do not have.
In future, I hope for more substance from my Representative, and less performative, fictitious hyperbole.
Take care out there.
