Reject Anti-LGBTQ Provision in NDAA, Support Military Families
To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer
From: A constituent in Wellsville, NY
December 14
As the son of two military veterans and the father of a transgender teenager, I implore you to refuse to pass the NDAA with a poison pill that will strip the children of our active servicemembers of their rights and access to proven, lifesaving medical care. This unnecessary and cruel provision would inflict immense harm on the children of military families by denying them access to essential healthcare services. Passing this today could potentially deny or substantially complicate youth access to these critical services for decades or even generations, similar to the Hyde Amendment's impact on access to safe and legal abortion services. It is unconscionable to use these vulnerable young people as political pawns. Rejecting this discriminatory policy is not only a matter of basic human rights, but also vital to maintaining the wellbeing and morale of our armed forces. As their elected representatives, sworn to defend the rights of all Americans, it is imperative that you remove this unethical provision and pass a clean NDAA that fully supports our troops and their families. Stripping protections from children is antithetical to our national values of equality and compassion. Stand firm against this attack on LGBTQ youth and demonstrate your commitment to upholding the civil liberties enshrined in our Constitution.
