Oppose Laws That Weaponize Government Against Transgender People

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Walberg

From: A constituent in Stevensville, MI

March 16

I need you to oppose legislation that weaponizes law to target transgender people. Kansas just revoked previously valid driver's licenses and birth certificates that transgender residents had legally updated years ago. The state is now forcing a transgender man to carry a license marked "F" that doesn't match who he is, creating confusion and danger. This isn't fixing a problem. No one was reporting issues with transgender people having accurate identification. This is legal scapegoating. Lawmakers introduced over 1,000 bills in 2025 to restrict transgender people, blaming them for everything from fraud to national security threats without evidence. When a Kansas court refused to block the law in March, it claimed transgender rights depend on neighbor tolerance rather than legal protection. That's not how rights work in a democracy. Law is supposed to solve real problems, not inflame hostility toward vulnerable groups. When government uses law to target one group, it won't stop there. We're already seeing immigration law justify disproportionate violence and laws targeting women seeking reproductive healthcare. Everyone is vulnerable in some way. Protect your constituents by opposing these laws that put us all at risk.
