I strongly oppose the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act, which was reintroduced yesterday. To be clear, I am not arguing for exposing kids to inappropriate materials. No one is. However I take issue with the idea that obscenity definitions need to be changed and I am skeptical that the best way to prevent children from accessing explicit content is to ban it completely or use age verification that's mandatory. If protecting children from explicit content is the goal, there should be an effort to get parents on board with curating the online experience of their children. The ability to curate and self-moderate what you and your kids see would be less likely to criminalize legal speech while protecting children from adult material. There are parents in my community who do this for their children and it works to keep them away from adult material. There are alternatives to censorship. Oppose the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act.
