Protect freedom: De-escalate ICE actions in our communities

To: Rep. Riley, Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Ithaca, NY

February 8

I am writing to follow up on a letter I sent a few weeks ago about ICE actions that I believe are terrorizing families and communities. I do not want the pressure or attention on this issue to let up, because the stakes for people across America are too high. No matter one’s party or political views, our leaders need to come to the table to de-escalate what is happening and to re-establish peace and trust in communities across the nation. This should be a shared responsibility that rises above partisanship. For many of us, this is non-negotiable. Citizens everywhere are watching what happens next. We are in a battle for the dignity of America. Freedom first, freedom now, freedom always—a commitment to freedom is always what we are watching for from our leaders. I urge you to act with urgency and humanity to lower tensions and protect the dignity and safety of the people you serve.
