VOTE NO TO HOUSE BILL 945

To: Rep. Robinson, Sen. Boyd

From: A verified voter in Bradenton, FL

March 2

The weaponization of law enforcement against all citizens for the stated purposes of catching criminals is unacceptable. Allowing anyone to analyze the general population’s patterns of life is an affront to the First Amendment. We have already witnessed how the Federal government has weaponized ICE against Immigrants (illegal and legal) as well as protestors who have taken to the streets in opposition to the methodology of poorly trained agents. Floridians do not want OUR government interfering in the lives of our citizens or anyone on American soil. The vast majority of Americans want our government to be respectful to all people. Not too long ago the Supreme Court ruled that law enforcement officers could lie to suspects in order to extract confessions. Today they not only lie to close cases, but they also lie to protect themselves from their lapses in professionalism, including those made maliciously. We should never allow our law enforcement personnel to conduct themselves in similar form to that of criminals. When you allow law enforcement so much latitude that it is difficult to prevent abuses. Not only do our elected officials need to remember who they work for, but our law enforcement officers as well. I am strongly opposed to HB945.
