Remove Section 108 from the Take Care of America's Veterans Act. This provision would cut veterans' disability compensation — earned compensation for injuries and illnesses sustained in military service — to fund other programs. That is not a budget trade-off. It is a broken promise.
Disability benefits are not discretionary spending. They are the result of a contract made with every service member who put their body on the line. I also oppose using projected reductions in Title 38 disability compensation to finance Title 10 military retirement obligations. If Congress wants to pass a clean Major Richard Star Act, it should find a way to do that without raiding the benefits veterans already earned. Strip Section 108 from this bill and pass veterans' priorities without cutting the compensation they were promised.
