I am writing to express my deep disgust and disappointment at the decision to lower the flags to half-staff in honor of Charlie Kirk. This action is wholly inappropriate and a disservice to the true meaning of that solemn gesture.
Flying the flag at half-staff should be reserved for individuals who have dedicated their lives to public service, demonstrated extraordinary bravery, or made meaningful contributions to the Commonwealth or our nation. Mr. Kirk does not meet those standards. To elevate him in this way dishonors the sacrifices of veterans, public servants, and citizens who have genuinely earned such recognition.
As a Pennsylvanian, I expect our leaders to uphold the dignity and symbolism of our flag, not cheapen it for political purposes. This decision reflects poorly on the values we claim to represent.
I urge you to reconsider how these honors are bestowed in the future and to ensure that half-staff orders remain reserved for those who truly deserve them.
