Jury Duty Trauma Support

To: Gov. Whitmer, Sen. McMorrow, Rep. Scott

From: A verified voter in Detroit, MI

August 11, 2025

Recent New York Times investigations show that citizens who serve their country through jury duty are likely to experience secondary trauma and that little support is available. Being tried by a jury of one’s peers is a valuable and essential part of US government, and jurors deserve to be valued as well. Michigan is not among states listed as having confidential counseling or other support available. I request that the legislature consider what measures Michigan jurors deserve to process trauma and return to their lives after a trial.
