I live on Maui. I’m a retiree who depends on Medicare and Social Security. I’m writing to urge you: do not cave to partisan pressure to end the government shutdown at the expense of the Affordable Care Act.
Millions of Americans—including me—depend on the ACA for access to life-saving care. This is not a political bargaining chip. It’s a lifeline. Any deal that undermines healthcare protections is unacceptable.
I know this moment is difficult. But I want you to know: I’m behind you. Thank you! So are countless others who believe in protecting the most vulnerable among us. Please stand firm. Do not allow essential programs to be gutted under the guise of compromise. I’m afraid if you give in the results will be devastating and just the beginning of their destruction.
We need leaders who will defend healthcare and stand strong on other important programs, not dismantle it. We’re counting on you.
