I am writing to demand that you and your colleagues take immediate action to stop former President Trump’s use of unlawful and abusive executive orders to target individuals like Chris Krebs, the former Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
The actions taken against Mr. Krebs and others for simply doing their jobs and telling the truth are an outright abuse of executive power and a chilling attack on the integrity of our democracy. Allowing any president — past, present, or future — to wield executive orders as a personal weapon against public servants, private citizens, or political critics is a direct violation of the rule of law and the principles of accountability and fairness that this country is supposed to uphold.
This is not a partisan issue; it’s a matter of protecting the constitutional rights of every American and preserving the checks and balances that prevent authoritarian rule. I urge you to investigate these abuses, pursue legislative safeguards to prevent this kind of retaliation, and hold accountable anyone who has used or enabled executive authority to harass or silence individuals for political gain.
Our democracy depends on Congress doing its job to check executive overreach. I hope you will act swiftly and decisively.
