President Trump’s recent executive order on elections is a dangerous overreach that violates the Constitution and undermines our democracy. States—not the President—have the authority to run elections. This order forces strict proof-of-citizenship rules and mail-in ballot restrictions that could block millions of eligible Americans from voting (Brookings, April 2025).
These changes would disproportionately impact women who changed their names, young voters, naturalized citizens, and tribal residents—all less likely to have the required documents on hand (The Guardian, April 2025). There is no credible evidence of widespread non-citizen voting to justify this crackdown.
Congress must act immediately to block this order and protect the rights of voters. Do not let executive power override state authority and silence the voices of American citizens.
