I trust that you have had the opportunity by this point to study tariffs sufficiently to understand that they are effectively taxes imposed directly on the American people. This new illegal tariff deal with the EU will drive up costs across a range of everyday products, with a disproportionate burden on those already struggling with rising prices. Given that the Constitution gives Congress—not the executive branch—the right and obligation to establish tariffs, it is your job to consider the needs of your constituents and to do your best to reverse these illegal and misguided tariffs. Adding a sales tax to American consumers while insisting that foreign nations pay those taxes (a lie) is offensive to all of us who understand what tariffs are and how much damage they've done to past American economies. Stop the damage now.
