Demand Clear Strategic Goals and Congressional Authorization for Iran Military Action

March 5

I am writing to demand that you take immediate action to require the administration to articulate clear strategic goals for military operations against Iran and to ensure proper congressional authorization for any continued engagement. Six American service members have already died in this conflict. Three F-15 fighter jets, each valued at approximately $100 million, have been destroyed. Thousands of Iranian civilians have been killed in Tehran, a densely populated city comparable to New York. These losses demand accountability and a coherent explanation of what we are trying to achieve. The justifications for this military action have shifted constantly. Initial claims that Iran "definitely has nukes" changed to "might have nukes" and then to "was thinking about maybe having nukes." Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reportedly given different explanations on consecutive days. One official stated the action was about "protecting Israel," yet Congress never authorized a war on behalf of another country. These inconsistent explanations suggest there is no clear strategic objective guiding our military engagement. The situation has been further complicated by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth suggesting that media coverage of dead American troops is merely an attempt to make the President "look bad," rather than treating these deaths as the national tragedy they are. Additionally, FBI Director Kash Patel fired FBI agents responsible for tracking Iranian threats just before launching military action against Iran, creating dangerous intelligence gaps. Americans remain stranded in the Middle East with inadequate State Department evacuation support. Our service members and citizens deserve better than this chaotic approach to foreign policy. I urge you to demand that the administration provide Congress and the American people with specific, measurable objectives for this military engagement, a timeline for achieving those objectives, and proper congressional authorization. If the administration cannot articulate clear goals, Congress must use its constitutional authority to end this operation immediately.
