Shutdown the Everglades Concentration Camp NOW

To: Sen. Padilla, Pres. Trump, Sen. Schiff, Rep. Jacobs

From: A constituent in San Diego, CA

September 25

The Everglades Concentration Camp, otherwise known as "Alligator Alcatraz" or an ICE detention center, must be closed. Not only has Alligator Alcatraz become a site of unacceptable and inhumane detention, but there are now alarming reports that a large number of detainees—possibly 800 to 1,200—are unaccounted for. There is no data tracking their whereabouts; their trail appears to end at this facility. Where are these people? What has happened to them under ICE custody? The treatment at Alligator Alcatraz has been deeply troubling. Reports describe detainees forced to drink water off the floor, sleep on moldy mats, and endure conditions where hands are tied behind backs while being made to kneel and eat from plates on the ground. This is not the America I know—a country that values justice, liberty, and due process. Where is the congressional oversight to ensure these basic rights are upheld? Allowing this to continue on your watch makes you partially accountable. What will you do to remedy it? Families and legal representatives cannot locate their loved ones. People do not simply vanish. This is not a bureaucratic problem—it is a human tragedy, and it is happening under the authority of ICE. The lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable, and it demands immediate action. I urge you to act swiftly to investigate, provide answers to the families of the missing, and ensure humane treatment for all detainees. This is a matter of justice, human rights, and American values.
