Ban Gambling Advertisements

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Rep. Tenney, Sen. Schumer

From: A constituent in Lewiston, NY

December 11

Dear Congress, I am writing this letter out of frustration with the countless advertisements for gambling — or for gambling disguised as a “prediction market.” Gambling is a serious issue for Americans, especially young men. I have no objection to legalized sports betting; I prefer what we have now to illegal, under-the-table bookies. However, I would like to see advertisements for gambling and prediction markets banned, just as cigarette advertisements once were and, in many cases, still are. I believe a ban on these advertisements would lead to fewer gambling addicts, fewer suicides, and less poverty. Thank you for your consideration.
