As one of your constituents, I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor and actively support the Social Security 2100 Act.
With the Social Security Trust Fund projected to face a critical shortfall in the coming decade, we cannot afford legislative gridlock. This program is not an entitlement; it is an insurance policy that American workers pay into throughout their careers.
The Social Security 2100 Act offers a common-sense, balanced approach to securing this safety net. I specifically support the bill because it: Protects Solvency by Ensuring Fairness: It applies the FICA payroll tax to earnings above $400,000, ensuring high earners contribute their fair share to the system.
Adopts a Realistic COLA (CPI-E): Switching to the Consumer Price Index for the Elderly (CPI-E) ensures annual cost-of-living adjustments accurately reflect the real-world inflation seniors face, particularly in healthcare and housing.
Provides a Necessary Benefit Boost: The 2% across-the-board benefit increase and the raising of the minimum benefit to 125% of the poverty line protect our most vulnerable retirees from falling into poverty.
Cuts Taxes on Seniors: By raising the income thresholds at which Social Security benefits are taxed, it provides immediate relief to middle-class retirees.
An automatic across-the-board cut to benefits is unacceptable. We need proactive, permanent solutions to protect the retirement security of millions of Americans. I ask that you publicly declare your support for the Social Security 2100 Act and work to bring it to a vote.
Thank you for your time and your service to our district. I look forward to hearing your position on this critical issue.
