The United States has stood by Ukraine in its resistance against Russia's unprovoked invasion and has provided crucial military aid and support. Ukraine's brave soldiers and citizens are fighting to defend their homeland, freedom, and democracy. They deserve our unwavering backing until lasting peace and Ukraine's sovereignty are secured. A diplomatic resolution is ideal, but it cannot come at the expense of Ukraine's territorial integrity or self-determination. Russia must withdraw its forces and respect Ukraine's independence. Until then, continuing support from the U.S. and allies is vital for Ukraine to uphold its legitimate right to exist as a free nation. The courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of Russian aggression have been extraordinary. They are an inspiration defending core values of human rights, rule of law, and national sovereignty that underpin a peaceful world order. I urge maintaining robust assistance to Ukraine and its democratically-elected government led by President Zelensky.
