I am writing with an urgent and imperative plea for immediate action from the President of the United States and members of Congress.
Mohammed Ibrahim, a 16-year-old American citizen from Palm Bay, Florida, has been illegally imprisoned by the Israeli military since February 2025.
Israeli forces stormed his family’s home in the West Bank in the middle of the night, blindfolding and handcuffing him while his parents watched helplessly. He was just 15 years old. Mohammed has since spent his 16th birthday alone in an Israeli military prison, where he has reportedly lost more than 30 pounds and has been denied food, medical care, and basic human needs. A U.S. Embassy official who recently saw him confirmed to his father that Mohammed looked extremely unwell and that his physical and mental health are rapidly declining.
And yet, our government has remained silent.
This is unacceptable. It is unconscionable that an American child is being left to deteriorate in a foreign military prison under conditions that would never be tolerated for any other U.S. citizen.
I am demanding that the President and Congress take the following immediate public actions:
Intervene directly with the Israeli government to secure Mohammed Ibrahim’s immediate release and safe return home.
Organize and lead a congressional delegation to Israel to demand immediate access to see Mohammed and verify his condition.
Direct the State Department to ensure U.S. officials attend Mohammed’s hearing and formally advocate for his release.
Order the U.S. Embassy in Israel to act without delay to protect Mohammed’s life and return him to his family.
Launch a full congressional investigation into Israel’s violations of due-process standards and child-protection laws in Mohammed’s case.
Every hour matters. Mohammed is an American citizen — a child — and he is in crisis.
If the administration and Congress do not act today, you are leaving an American minor to deteriorate, and possibly die, in foreign military custody while Israel is once again allowed to detain and mistreat children with impunity.
We are calling on the President and every member of Congress to intervene now. Mohammed’s life depends on it.
