Embrace telework's economic and sustainability benefits per GAO report

To: Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell, Rep. Randall

The Trump administration's mandates requiring federal employees to return to the office full-time have been detrimental to the federal workforce and government spending. Enforcing outdated office-only policies risks losing top talent, reducing productivity, and hindering cost savings. The Government Accountability Office's comprehensive report highlights how embracing telework attracts diverse talent pools, including workers with disabilities and caregivers, strengthening organizational resilience and tapping into expertise previously out of reach. Moreover, remote work allows agencies to downsize office footprints, reducing lease and overhead expenses while shrinking carbon emissions. Discarding these proven benefits in favor of rigid attendance requirements discourages skilled individuals from seeking federal employment and wastes taxpayer dollars. I urge you to reconsider these counterproductive return-to-office mandates and instead implement telework policies aligned with the GAO's data-driven guidance to enhance the federal workforce's efficiency, recruitment, and fiscal responsibility.
