I am writing to voice my strong opposition to the nomination of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense. The position of Secretary of Defense demands an individual of impeccable character, sound judgment, and a demonstrated ability to lead with integrity. Mr. Hegseth’s record and personal conduct make him wholly unfit for this vital role. Mr. Hegseth’s history of flagrant alcohol use and inappropriate behavior, including allegations of womanizing, raises serious concerns about his suitability to lead the Department of Defense. These behaviors not only call into question his judgment and discipline but also risk undermining the respect and trust required to effectively lead the men and women of our armed forces. Additionally, Mr. Hegseth has demonstrated a troubling lack of commitment to impartiality and professionalism, often using inflammatory rhetoric to promote partisan agendas. The Secretary of Defense must unite, not divide, and must lead with a clear focus on national security, not personal or political interests. This role is far too critical to be entrusted to someone whose personal and professional history is marred by conduct unbecoming of a leader. Our military personnel deserve a leader who exemplifies the highest standards of honor and responsibility. I urge you to reject this nomination and advocate for a candidate who possesses the integrity, character, and qualifications required to effectively serve as Secretary of Defense.
